Business Improvement Grant

Round Three Deadline: September 30, 2022
This program offers matching grants up to $2,500 for the structural or cosmetic improvement of businesses in Reedsport. Grants to businesses within the Urban Renewal District are funded by the Urban Renewal Agency.

The grant amount requested cannot total more than 50% of the total project cost or $2,500, whichever is greater. In-kind contributions such as labor can count towards the match. Projects that are complete under budget will receive the amount needed to cover the actual costs, with the remaining funds cycling back into the grant program in order to benefit more businesses throughout Reedsport.

All projects must be completed six months from the time that the grant is awarded. Extensions may be given under certain circumstances. Learn more by clicking: Business Improvement Grant

Artist in Residency Program

The Oregon Coast School of Art was founded in early 2020 at the wonderful old Jewett Middle School in Gardiner, Oregon. The potential and opportunities to build a thriving arts community are endless. We made incredible progress this past year! Some of the highlights include:
  • ceramics, dance, painting, and fiber arts classes for kids and adults
  • food storage for Project Blessing Food Pantry
  • host to Scout Troop events and weekly big band practices
  • home to world renowned radio personality, Delilah, and her radio station KDUN
  • destination for the upcoming 1st Annual Coastal Women’s Conference!
We are ready to launch our Artist in Residency Program! It is designed to be collaborative and community focused, where an artist will share their art and talents with the public. Whether through art classes with kids, or an open house for the general public, sharing of information and ideas is a priority.
Please join our fundraiser to remodel two classrooms into resident studio apartments! Donate online or download a pdf donation form to mail in your contribution or call and talk to Emily in person.
Each classroom will cost an estimated $16,000 to remodel. Construction to transform these wonderful classrooms into livable/workable spaces include:
  • insulating the entire room
  • new flooring
  • drywall and paint
  • small kitchenette with small appliances and sink
  • upgrading electrical to accommodate most artistic practices
  • dump fees and ancillary costs
“We want to offer an artist a space where they can come and work and have support, have freedom, have a safety net and have security. It is a rare and special combination of things, not only artists, but I think all of us in our lives want this. If we can offer that to artists when they’re pursuing a career or ideas that are harder to pursue or riskier or financially more difficult, it’s worth taking the time to support artists in that way so they contribute to the world in ways bigger than any of us can even imagine.”
– Emily Free Wilson, Director

The goal: to raise $32,000 during the month of May!
A group of local businesses and individuals (*listed below) are dedicated to seeing us meet our goal by committing a matching grant for a total of $10,820! This is just over a third of our goal! So, once we raise $10,820, it will double to be $21,640!
As a way to honor each donor legacy, we will put your name, or a name of a loved one on a special tile that will be installed in the hallways of the resident studios. The soft diamond shaped tile will be installed to show movement of water, wind, waves and leaves flowing through the school hallways. Each donation will make a difference!
$25-$99 – 6” tile
$100 – $499 – 7.5” tile
$500 – $999 – 9” tile
$1000 – $4999 – 12” tile
$5000 – You become the official “sponsor” for a residency. Your name will be associated with the actual classroom and residency for 1 full year; and a 12” tile installed.
Once the fundraising goal has been met, a timeline will be put in motion and application requirements for a residency will be announced! Thank you for your generous donation and if you have any questions about our exciting programs, please call or email Emily at 541-901-1033 and oregoncoastschoolofart@gmail.com
THANK YOU!

2022 Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant Announcement

The Reedsport Main Street Program will receive $200,000 in matching funds for roof and electrical improvements to six commercial buildings in downtown Reedsport.
 Funded projects include:
  • 191 North 4th Street
  • 301 Fir Avenue
  • 379 Fir Avenue
  • 392 Fir Avenue
  • 456 Fir Avenue
  • 510 Greenwood Avenue
The grant program was created during the 2015 legislative session, and placed with the Oregon State Historic Preservation Office. The legislation established a permanent fund for the Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant, and provided an initial infusion of funds from the sale of lottery bonds. The legislature included the Oregon Main Street Revitalization Grant in the lottery bond package approved in 2021. An additional grant round will occur in 2023. The funds must be used to award grants to participating Oregon Main Street Network organizations to acquire, rehabilitate or construct buildings to facilitate community revitalization. The program also requires that at least 50 percent of the funds go to rural communities as defined in the bill.
